Our most common questions answered

You need to be at least 17 years of age and if you have not already done so, apply for a provisional license from the DVLA. You can do this online or by getting an application (D1) form from the post office.

Your Instructor will tailor a package to suit your budget. Check out our Prices and Special Offers to see our current offers and discounts. Alternatively, contact us for more information.

Currently Panchal Driving Academy do not offer automatic driving lessons in Leicester. We will be looking to provide this service in the near future. The vast majority of British drivers learn in a manual car. Before you decide to learn in an automatic, you may want to ask yourself why? Passing your test in an automatic will not entitle you to drive a manual. Automatic cars are generally more expensive as well.

Why not take a trial lesson in a manual car before making a decision?

Continuity of driving lessons is important and Panchal Driving Academy recommends that you take regular lessons. You will also progress much quicker if you take 1.5 or 2 hour lessons each time. The number of lessons you take depends on how quickly you want to pass and when your practical test is booked. We will be able to give you more advice on your first lesson.

Most of our learners take advantage of our block booking discounts, which are available to everyone. Savings can be made on block bookings of 10 hours or more. Students with a valid NUS card can also benefit from discounts. Check out our current Special Offers for further details or contact us.

No, at Panchal Driving Academy we encourage you to study the theory whilst having practical lessons. Your theory will support your practical driving and vice versa. From our experience, learners who study for the theory test whilst learning to drive gain more from the overall learning experience. You will need to pass the theory test before applying for the practical test.

Yes we do offer intensive driving courses but before you consider one, ask yourself whether you need an intensive course?

These can be anything from one week upwards. Undertaking an intensive course will depend on several factors, such as previous experience and whether you have passed your theory test. If you want to go ahead, we will arrange an assessment drive and advise you of your best route to test.

Please note that intensive courses can be costly and are dependent on your availability to take lessons.

There are no minimum number of lessons you must have or hours you must practise driving. How many lessons you need will depend on how quickly you learn. It also depends on a number factors, such as age, ability and learning style.

Your instructor will use tried and tested methods to monitor your progress with lesson plans adapted to keep you fully informed throughout your learning.

At Panchal Driving Academy, our aim is to provide you with driving skills for life and not just to pass your practical test. If you have been learning to drive elsewhere, have a driving test coming up or simply need a second opinion?

Contact us to book an assessment drive. We will identify your strengths and weaknesses, ensuring you are best prepared to meet the strict DVSA driving test standards.

We recommend and encourage private practise. This will only support your learning! Anyone you practise your driving with (without paying them) must:

  • be over 21
  • be qualified to drive the type of vehicle you want to learn in, eg they must have a manual car licence if they’re supervising you in a manual car
  • have had their full driving licence for 3 years (from countries in the European Union or European Economic Area)

You can be fined up to £1,000 and get up to 6 penalty points on your provisional licence if you drive without the right supervision.

You need your own insurance as a learner driver if you’re practising in a car you own. Your family member or friend will usually be covered on this. If you’re practising in someone else’s car, you need to make sure their insurance policy covers you as a learner driver. Please note that some insurance companies require the person supervising you to be over 25 years old.

You can get an unlimited fine, be banned from driving and get up to 8 penalty points for driving without insurance.

You must also put an L plate on the front and back of your vehicle so they can be seen easily.

Anyone you pay to teach you to drive must be either:

  • a qualified and approved driving instructor (ADI)
  • a trainee driving instructor

Instructors have to display a badge in their windscreen to prove they’re registered with the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA). They display:
a green badge if they’re a qualified driving instructor
a pink badge if they’re a trainee

I previously had an instructor who I didn’t feel comfortable with & had picked up so many bad habits. Upon switching to Jitesh immediately I noticed the care & attention in which really helped me with my driving. He was motivating & ironed out all my bad habits and was determined for me to pass. Great experience, very professional,  & just a good natured person to be around! Would 100% recommend to anyone looking to ace their test!
